FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What the hosted MCP does, which official sources it covers, how to connect an agent, and how plans work.

What is SourceActs?

SourceActs is a hosted MCP server for official law. It connects Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, and other MCP clients to public regulatory sources so agents can search instruments, pull metadata, and monitor updates — without custom scrapers or paid database seats. It is operated by MITC ApS in Denmark.

What is a hosted MCP server for official law?

It's a remote Model Context Protocol endpoint (https://sourceacts.com/mcp) your agent calls instead of browsing the web. SourceActs queries public government and treaty portals — such as EUR-Lex Cellar SPARQL, the U.S. Federal Register API, and national gazettes — and returns metadata with the official locator and a source attribution string, so the agent can cite the publisher's own URL.

How is this different from having my agent search the web?

SourceActs only wraps public government and treaty portals; results carry the publisher's official URL and an attribution string. It does not resell Lexis, Westlaw, or other licensed collections, and it does not wrap curated secondary summaries. See Sources.

Can't I just call EUR-Lex or the Federal Register APIs myself?

Yes — several upstream endpoints are listed on /docs. SourceActs puts them behind one MCP endpoint and one source parameter, adds content_hash values for diffing, signed webhook watches that POST only changed rows (Starter and above), per-response attribution strings, and a status page that probes each publisher. Whether that is worth $5 / month versus building it yourself depends on your setup.

Which official sources are covered?

Search, fetch, and latest updates are live for EUR-Lex / EU Cellar, legislation.gov.uk, the U.S. Federal Register, the Canada Gazette, Denmark's Retsinformation, WTO Documents Online, the UN Official Document System, and Brazilian federal legislation. The eGazette of India is catalogued but not searchable yet. Full catalogue: Sources.

How do I connect Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT?

Add https://sourceacts.com/mcp as a remote MCP server with the header Authorization: Bearer <your sa_live_ key>. /docs has setup for Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Claude Code, Claude Desktop (via mcp-remote) and ChatGPT.

Is there a free tier?

Yes. Free is $0: 50 queries a day, 10 results per call, 1 API key, EUR-Lex and UK search and fetch. Gazette updates are off. No credit card to sign up. See pricing.

What does the $5 Starter plan include?

Starter is $5 / month: 200 queries a day, 25 results per call, 1 API key, all wired official sources, overnight gazette / Official Journal updates, 3 signed webhook watches, and an audit log. See pricing.

What plans are there above Starter?

Builder ($15 / month), Pro ($49), Scale ($99), and Scale+ ($249) — the same official sources, with higher daily-query, API-key and watch caps. There are no seats, no Enterprise SKU, and no sales-gated unlimited plan. See pricing.

How are paid plans billed and cancelled?

Paid plans are Stripe subscriptions that renew monthly until you cancel them through the Stripe Customer Portal.

Can I reuse the results commercially?

SourceActs records its reuse position for each source, with a link to the publisher's own statement, on source compliance. Official texts remain copyright of their publishers, and SourceActs does not give legal advice.

How should my agent attribute official sources?

Every search, fetch, and latest-updates response includes a source attribution string, and each result carries its official locator. Keep both when you publish agent output, and do not remove source URLs. See attribution.

Does SourceActs give legal advice?

No. SourceActs does not give legal advice. Results are metadata and locators from government and treaty publishers; you remain responsible for how your agents use them. See terms.
